Terry Fox Run

September is the time that students get engaged with the York community in a meaningful, lively way while increasing cancer awareness on campus to keep Terry Fox’s spirit alive. It is the time of the annual Terry Fox Run at York University.

What is it?

The Terry Fox Run returns this year on September 15th, 2013. This annual run has become a tradition at York and throughout the years has grown in popularity. The run is non-competitive, with no minimum pledge required. The goal of the run is to raise money and awareness for cancer research while spreading the story of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.  York University has held the run since 1992 and hopes that this year will be as great as any. The event is open to the public, all York students and staff, community groups and neighboring residences around York University.

The run will kick off at 9:30am to 12:00pm on Sunday at the Life Science Building Courtyard. The route is planned to be 5km long and will be accessible, allowing all participants to explore the campus and beyond. The details of the route are to be confirmed, so it’s best to keep an eye on yorkisu.ca for updates. During the run, York Is U volunteers and coordinators will be assisting the runners and motivating them throughout the day. Water and food will be provided by York Is U to keep runners energized.  After completion of the run participants receive the Terry Fox Certificate to show off their accomplishment!

Although last year’s outcome for the run was tremendous, this year the hope is to increase both the number of participants and the amount of money raised.  On top of that, the goal is to provide York students the opportunity to engage within the vibrant student community at York, build a sense of belonging on campus and help students earn Torch Points for their colleges.  And of course this year, the same as every year, the ultimate goal is to keep Terry’s inspiring story alive and continue a great Canadian tradition.

The Terry Fox Run is led by York is U’s Core Events Ambassador, Ariel Phan!

Volunteer with Us!

We are always looking for volunteers to help with all events at York is U! This year we’re looking for 15-20 volunteers. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the York community, meet new people and build your co-curricular record.  Volunteers will have the opportunity to spread the word of fun things happening on campus and hand out giveaways and popcorn to the York Community!
